Melissa is proud of her northern roots, having had the opportunity to live in communities such as Elliot Lake, Sault Ste Marie, Thunder Bay, Earlton, and now Sudbury. Having seen both her parents complete their high school diplomas and pursue their post-secondary education while in their twenties, she recognized at a young age the important role education plays in building confidence and a person’s wellbeing.
After graduating from Trent University with a Bachelors of Arts and Literature with Honours, Melissa embarked on a journey to South Korea to work with a non-profit school as an English as Second Language teacher. Upon her return to northern Ontario, she worked in the social services field promoting a collaborative and inclusive approach in the delivery of children’s services.
As a result of her experiences, Melissa has a passion for fostering inclusive environments that ensure everyone is treated with respect and dignity. She has had training in Person-Centred Thinking practices as well as change management approaches.
