Empowering Local Educators

Gakino’amaage: Teach For Canada is dedicated to providing locally hired teachers with professional opportunities to grow, evolve, and become lifelong advocates for students in the North.

As part of our Locally Hired Teacher Support Program, we offer a range of services and support to empower local educators.

 

This program is one of many opt-in programs available to First Nations Community Partners. By partnering with Gakino’amaage, you’ll access similar programs and resources that help to strengthen local community capacity.

 

The Program at a Glance

Gakino’amaage: Teach For Canada’s support system is built on three pillars: professional, peer, and personal. We are dedicated to fostering sustainable and effective First Nations schools led and staffed by local community members.

Personal Support
Local teachers receive access to professional counselling services and resources to support emotional and mental health. Thanks to our partnership with Headspace, we are able to offer no-cost access to a mindfulness and meditation app to help manage stress and maintain balance in your life.

Professional Support
Access a comprehensive suite of professional development resources tailored to enhance your skills and knowledge. This includes monthly resource emails, professional development webinars led by experienced educators, and access to Gakino'amaage Teacher Development Managers who offer personalized guidance and support throughout the teaching journey.

Peer Support
Connect with a vast network of northern educators and join a supportive community of like-minded professionals. Exchange ideas, share experiences, and collaborate with other educators in the North.

Participation in the Locally Hired Teacher Support Program is open to all local educators in the First Nations that Gakino’amaage serves. There are no prerequisites or costs associated with joining. To sign up, simply email us at support@teachforcanada.ca.
