Andrea Rose
Professor of Education, Memorial University of Newfoundland

As a musician, educator, researcher, clinician and adjudicator, Andrea enjoys an active role in the ongoing development of education at local, national and international levels. She holds undergraduate degrees in music and music education from Memorial University, a Masters in Music and PhD in Education (Curriculum and Instruction) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. A professor with the Faculty of Education, Memorial University of Newfoundland since 1990, Andrea taught for ten years at the secondary level in St. John’s. She has been the recipient of several awards including the President’s Award for Distinguished Teaching (1998). In 2004 Andrea was named a 3M National Teaching Fellow, and in 2012 she was a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Dr. Rose’s current research interests focus on the construction of leadership ‘identity’ and the role of dialogue in pedagogy, leadership and public engagement. Recent study has focused also on the development of e-contexts and pedagogies for music and arts education, the role of indigenous traditions and knowledge in formal educational contexts, and the development of critical and creative pedagogies in teacher education.
