Growing up in Vancouver, BC to a Manitoba-born Métis mother and Afro-Colombian father, Benita was the first high school graduate in her immediate family. Passionate about writing, activism, and arts in school, Benita quickly began using her administrative skills to work alongisde LGBTQ2S+ and BIPOC forwarding organizations across BC.

Grant administrator at Thotful Studios, a member of the 2 Spirits In Motion Society, and a workshop planner for marginalized youth with various collectives, Benita is dedicated to reconnecting to her Afro-Indigenous identity by being a community liaison—empowering others, being a meaningful communicator, and prioritizing Indigenous voices.
