Kelly Crawford, Bmaashi Miigizi Kwe, OCT, BA(Hons), B.Ed., M.A., a proud member of M’Chigeeng First Nation and a life-long learner currently pursuing her PhD at OISE. Kelly is the former Assistant Director of Indigenous Initiatives at the University of Toronto Scarborough, Director of Education for the Kinoomaadziwin Education Body and Principal of Academics at Kenjgewin Teg Educational Institute. Kelly continues her love of teaching as a sessional faculty member at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) and Centennial College. She is an expert in treaty education and played an instrumental leadership role in the development and implementation of the Anishinabek Education System on behalf of the Anishinabek Nation for control over First Nations education within the Anishinabek Nation.
Kelly has authored several books and curricular resources on treaties in Ontario. In addition to the development of programs and curriculum resources under the umbrella of Indigenous education as an education consultant. She has taught and held administrative roles from primary to university, and has delivered guest lectures, treaty education sessions across the province for education institutes and government organizations.
Kelly has had the privilege of fostering close relationships with Elders and Knowledge Keepers who have inspired her to celebrate responsibilities and her commitment to education. Kelly’s advocacy strength and vision at all levels she works with, pushes the envelope and creates advancement opportunities for First Nations that ultimately benefit the learner and is a foundational part of every student’s life.
Kelly continues to be a well-respected mentor, teacher and leader who was recognized with the Premier’s Award for Community Service in 2016, Canadore College Alumni Hall of Fame in 2017 and 40 Under Forty in 2018.
